Belfast International support for Culture bid
The airport, which is the main 'gateway' to Northern Ireland, said that if successful, the bid by Derry City Council would be a major boost for tourism and the wider economy.
Belfast International Airport Managing Director, John Doran, said every effort should be made by both public and private sectors to ensure that the Maiden City came out ahead of the opposition in the shortlisted group.

"We need to show that we are all on the same page, and the impressive Derry City Council pitch deserves our full support. It is a great opportunity to showcase the best of what we have and to deliver a confident, outward-looking message.
"Visitors will be drawn to the many attractions in Derry and to get there, Belfast International Airport, as the main air access point, will be their first experience of the region.
"As a major employer serving the northern half of the island of Ireland, we wish the bid promoters well and hope their imaginative and creative efforts win the day".
