Speeding teen spotted overtaking on hill

Nineteen-year-old Patrick Duffy from Mountjoy Road, Coalisland, was also given four penalty points for speeding and failing to produce his licence to police.
Prosecuting counsel said on August 27 last at approximately 12.30am the defendant came through the Moneymore centre at speed failing to stop at the roundabout in High Street and almost coming into contact with a police vehicle.

Hide AdThe defendant continued along Bridge Street and Moneyhaw Road reaching speeds of between 80 and 90 mph, the lawyer continued.
She said police followed and observed him overtaking on the brow of a hill when it was unsafe as another vehicle could have been coming in the opposite direction.
Admitting the offences Niall McGuinness, solicitor, said Duffy would like to apologise to the court for the offences.
Mr McGuinness explained that the defendant had been issued with a fixed penalty and he sent a cheque to Laganside but it was not accepted as he hadn’t sent his licence because he couldn’t find it.

Hide AdHe said that prior to Covid, the defendant had been studying as an apprentice welder at college and work and this was something he would like to return to in the future and required his licence to pursue.
