Lead thieves target church
The raiders ripped out the valuable metal after gaining access to a roof belonging to Larne Methodist Church. The discovery was made after rain water leaked through the damaged sections of the building – which acts as a connection between the church and the church hall – and poured onto the carpet.
Rev Andrew Kingston told the Larne Times: “This was a very low thing to do and I find it scandalous that this kind of behaviour is taking place. These people are out to make a bit of easy money, but they are causing a lot of aggravation.”
Meanwhile, thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to three Larne town-centre shops after thieves scaled the buildings and made off with a large amount of lead.
