Magheramorne Quarry cycle centre application approved
The committee was told by Planning Officer Denise Kerr that it is the first reserved matters application on the outline application, which is still live.
Councillors were informed that the principle of development is already established at the site and that the proposed cycling trails will provide recreational facilities for all levels of cyclists.

Hide AdMs Kerr said plans included coach and car parking, turning areas and a large car park in the middle of the site with 308 parking bays. She said most statutory consultees found the application acceptable, subject to conditions. While NIEA natural heritage had highlighted concern over the potential impact on mature woodlands and badger setts, she said they were now content following route and trail amendment. One letter of objection was received.
Ms Kerr also stated that the proposed development would bring the quarry back into use with a recreational facility and enhance the site’s appearance. She said the proposal would have no significant affect on the flora and fauna and recommended approval.
Cllr Paul Reid called the scheme “good for tourism” and proposed acceptance of the recommendation. He was seconded by Cllr Andy Wilson on a vote of eight for, none against.
