International Triathlon possibility for Benone
Sport NI has made funding available to any organisations wishing to host international sporting events in Northern Ireland up to the end of March 2014.
The International Sporting Events Programme is a one year funded pilot programme that will run in the 2013-14 financial year, with a minimum grant of £10,000 and a maximum of £50,000.

Hide AdThe Sentinel has learned that an application has been submitted to host a Limavady International Triathlon Team Relay at Benone on September 28, 2013. If the application is successful up to 200 participants would be expected to take part in the event.
It is also anticipated that triathletes from “several countries” would be competing in the event.
Limavady Borough Council have applied to the International Sporting Events Programme to fund the event, with input and support from local outfit Triangle Triathlon Club.
If the application is to be successful, it will have to meet a number of criteria with a focus on ‘quality competition’, although successful applications will also be expected to demonstrate “how the proposed event feeds into Governing Bodies performance pathways; drives positive economic and social impacts (especially in areas of high social need); and creates opportunities for capacity building amongst sports volunteers and officials”, according to a report from Limavady Borough Council.
Letters of offer from Sport NI are expected next week.
