The PSNI Facebook message warned that those who ignore signs are not only causing a danger to other road-users, but are at risk of landing a fine and getting penalty points on their driving licence.
Posting a photo of a sign, a PSNI spokesperson said: “This is the stop sign at the junction of Moyola Road and the Hillhead Road in Castledawson. Stop means stop. It doesn't mean drive out or slow down.

The social media post attracted a number of comments from the public encouraging people to heed the police warning about this and other junctions.
One person, however, saw the funny side of the police message saying: “I stopped there for over an hour waiting for it to go green”.
