After opening with a bogey six he shot three threes followed by four fours and a five to go out in level par 36. Birdies at 13 and 15 were offset by bogeys at 11 and 14 for the best round of the day from the white tees.

Hide AdErnie Taylor (21) also finished on 68 but lost out on countback. He went out in 42 to lead the field after nine holes. He ran up sevens at 14 and 16 but finished on a high with a par to claim second.
Chris Davis (17) and Colin Fenton (10) finished on 69. A six at 17 proved expensive with Colin being awarded third place on countback.
Only eight of 170 players registered nett scores under par. Alan Wallwin finished on 70 followed by Steven Smiley, Neil Allen and Lewis Darragh on 71.
Girvan Gault led the 40 competitors who competed in a Stableford competition off the yellow tees. After playing the front nine in 45 for 20 points, he took a six at the 10th. He played the remaining holes well, finishing with two pars for 23 points on the back. His 43 total was five ahead of Robert Brown (13) in second.
