CITY OF DERRY: Biggest year yet for firmus energy Triathlon
With a growing number of participants racing for a competitor slot each year, organisers are advising both beginners and experienced triathletes to sign up as soon as possible to secure their space.
This year’s triathlon consists of a 750m swim in the River Foyle, a 20km closed road cycle and culminates in a 5km flat run, passing the Peace Bridge.

The ‘firmus energy City of Derry Triathlon’ achieved the prestigious National Series status in 2015 and this year’s event includes the addition of a qualified Super Series element, welcoming some of the best Triathletes in Ireland to the challenge.
Chief organiser and race director of the triathlon, Paul McGilloway from the North West Triathlon Club, explained: “firmus energy first supported the race at its inception in 2013 and it’s been great to have their ongoing sponsorship as it has allowed us to develop the competition each year.
“With the National Series status, we’ll attract professional athletes with a competitive edge, but equally we look forward to seeing our returning novices looking for some fun. The event really is for everyone!”
