Football community saddened by passing of Ian Hunter

He was an accomplished footballer at junior level in Ballymena, where he carved a reputation as a prolific goalscorer.
But it was through his work as a skilled administrator that he rose to prominence in football circles in Northern Ireland.

Hide AdHe was a former vice-chairman of the Ballymena Saturday Morning League and also represented the league on the County Antrim Football Association, while he was also a member of the Junior Committee of the Irish Football Association, of whom he also held life membership.
Ian was also a founder member of Wakehurst Football Club and was chairman of the club until 2010.
He was also a member of the Board of Directors at Ballymena United.
Away from football, Ian was a successful publican, who ran the Railway Tavern Bar on Queen Street for many years.

Hide AdHe was also a highly respected member of both the Orange Order and the Royal Black Preceptory.
A service of thanksgiving for Ian’s life will be held on Sunday, June 7, in Wellington Presbyterian Church (2.15pm) followed by interment in Ballee cemetery.
